Country singer Jessie James Decker set off a debate on social media after posting a video of herself spraying a bare foot that had appeared beside her airplane seat.
In the clip, Decker is seen covering her nose before dousing the foot with a spray. Text over the video read, “Someone’s foot smells so bad on the plane.”
Decker posed a question to her 4.4 million Instagram followers: “Before you come at me…What would you have done?”
The post drew a wave of comments, many siding with Decker. “The nerve of some people!” one user wrote, while another said, “I’d do just what you did!!! Spray the stinky foot!!!” A different commenter suggested the offending party “should’ve been escorted off the plane.”
A user identifying as a former flight attendant weighed in with a sharper take: “As a past flight attendant, when I saw people put their feet on the arm rest. I immediately told them no, this isn’t their home. Respect the plane & people around you. That is so F in nasty. I would have smacked his foot with my elbow.”
Not everyone was convinced the foot belonged to a stranger. Several commenters speculated it actually belonged to Decker’s husband, Eric Decker, a former NFL wide receiver whom she married in 2013. “Please tell me that’s Eric’s foot and not some random person’s foot!” one person wrote, while another guessed, “I’m guessing that’s Eric’s foot? You are far too sweet to do that to a stranger…” Another follower suggested the video might have been a joke between the couple, writing, “You’re being silly, right? It’s your husband behind you.”
Other commenters offered alternative ways to handle the situation, with one suggesting drawing on the foot with a sharpie and another proposing a fake sneeze followed by a spray.
Decker did not say whose foot appeared in the video. She and Eric Decker have four children: Vivianne, Eric Jr., Forrest and Denver.
