Radio host Charlamagne tha God is urging Democrats not to mistake their midterm wins in the House and Senate for a mandate, saying voters rejected Donald Trump and the Republican Party without necessarily putting their trust in Democrats.
“Don’t get comfortable because, you know, a Democrat victory has not proved that they’ve earned lasting trust. Americans rejected MAGA and Republicans, but that doesn’t automatically mean they trust Democrats,” he said.
Charlamagne said he was done hearing warnings about Trump without a corresponding plan from Democrats now that they hold power.
“I don’t want to hear another two years of Democrats telling us how dangerous Donald Trump is. We know that. OK? That’s why there was such a rebuke of Trump last night. We know he’s dangerous. That’s why y’all won. I have one question. OK? What the F are you going to do with the power that we the people just gave you, Democrats? OK?”
He called for Democrats to present a concrete agenda once they take office in January, listing specific demands on housing, health care, wages and government corruption.
“So, come January, I want to see an actual agenda. What’s your plan to lower housing costs? Are you going to build more affordable housing?” he asked. “What about healthcare? Are you going to fight to lower premiums, protect Medicaid? Are you going to stop Americans from going broke because they got sick? What about wages?”
“People are working two and three jobs and still can’t afford to live. What are you going to do to make sure a full-time job can actually support a family?” he continued, also calling for “real investigations into conflicts of interest” involving government contracts and public officials enriching themselves.
Charlamagne also praised Democratic candidates for steering away from culture-war messaging in favor of economic issues during the campaign.
“Ain’t no talk of wokeness,” he said. “There’s no talk [of] identity politics. They’re out there talking about affordability. And you got some really great quality candidates on the Democratic side.” He added that voters “voted their interest” rather than along party lines, saying many were simply “getting my a– kicked financially.”
A Sharp Rebuttal
Theo Wold, who served as a White House deputy assistant for domestic policy during Trump’s first term, dismissed Charlamagne’s comments as “clueless” in remarks to Fox News Digital.
“He, like so many voters who cast ballots for Democrats, labors under the misunderstanding that Democrats have a platform or any intention of addressing affordability, healthcare or the flat-lining wages for working families,” Wold said. “Democrats will do exactly what revolutionary ideologues have always done: move to consolidate their power and permanently alter governing institutions.”
Wold also predicted Democrats would pursue changes such as abolishing the Electoral College under the guise of addressing affordability. “But, in reality, Democrats will do exactly as they’ve promised: punish their enemies and radically transform our nation,” he said.
