TNA Title Match in Tampa Puts 22-Year-Old on Verge of Championship History

TNA Wrestling’s Bound for Glory pay-per-view comes to Tampa’s Yuengling Center on Sunday, where 22-year-old Leon Slater challenges champion Nic Nemeth with a chance to become the promotion’s youngest-ever world champion.

Tampa’s Yuengling Center will host TNA Wrestling’s biggest event of the year on Sunday, as Bound for Glory brings a world championship match with historic stakes to Hillsborough County.

Leon Slater, 22, will challenge champion Nic Nemeth for the TNA World Championship. If Slater wins, he becomes the youngest TNA world champion in the promotion’s history.

Slater addressed Nemeth directly on Thursday night’s broadcast of “Impact,” after TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella ruled that the two could not physically confront each other before the match.

“Nic, let’s get one thing clear – that rule isn’t saving me. That rule is saving you,” Slater said. “Because in a couple of days at Bound for Glory, when I finally get to beat your a— and take that title, you are going to realize exactly why they call me ‘The Youngest In Charge.'”

Slater joined TNA in 2023 and has quickly become one of the promotion’s most closely watched performers. He won the X Division Championship in May 2025 and became a two-time X Division champion at Slammiversary, defeating Cedric Alexander in a Last Man Standing Match held inside a steel cage. That second reign lasted only a few hours before Slater announced he was invoking “Option C,” a provision that let him trade the X Division title for a shot at the world championship — setting up Sunday’s match at Bound for Glory.

Nemeth, the defending champion, is in his second reign after defeating Mike Santana for the title at Slammiversary. He earned that title shot by winning the Call Your Shot Gauntlet, a match that will also take place at this year’s Bound for Glory and will again send at least one competitor toward a future world title opportunity.

A win for Slater would place him among past TNA world champions including Kurt Angle, Christian Cage, Sting, Jeff Jarrett, Moose and Jeff Hardy.

Bound for Glory begins at 4:30 p.m. ET Sunday at the Yuengling Center in Tampa and will stream on TNA+.
