Tiger Woods intends to return to competitive golf next year with a full schedule for TGL, the indoor golf league whose Jupiter Links team he co-owns, according to fellow PGA Tour player Jason Kokrakâwait, Jason Kisner, who spoke about Woods’ plans on the “Fore Play” podcast.
Woods, 50, has been out of competition since his arrest in Jupiter on charges of driving under the influence and two other misdemeanors. He later entered a plea deal in September that reduced the charges, and he completed a rehab stint in Switzerland afterward.
Kisner, who played for Jupiter Links last season, said his contract with the team was not renewed because Woods wants his roster spot back. “Obviously, I’m not on the team anymore,” Kisner said. “I had a two-year contract with Jupiter Links. …Tiger wants to play and then they wanted to sign Keith Mitchell, which is totally fine with me. It gives me a chance to hang out in January and February instead of flying back and forth to Palm Beach every Monday.”
Kisner said he learned of Woods’ plans through a text message from Rob McNamara, Woods’ longtime friend and business partner. “[Rob] texted me a long text last week, I think. Just telling me what they did on their decisions, how they were moving around and what players were going to do and that Tiger wanted to play a full schedule. I mean, we talked about it at the end of the season obviously,” Kisner said.
Beyond TGL, Kisner said he expects Woods to play in the Hero World Challenge, the tournament Woods hosts to benefit his TGR Foundation, and the PNC Championship, the father-son event where he has previously teamed with his son, Charlie. Kisner said he could even picture Woods returning to the Masters in 2027.
“The way he was swinging and moving on the range, I mean, the guy loves to compete,” Kisner said. “Come back, get your feet wet at the Hero, play with Charlie in the father-son, play some TGL [and] get ready for Augusta.”
The Jupiter Island Crash
Woods’ legal trouble began just three days after he returned to TGL play with Jupiter Links following rehabilitation from back and Achilles injuries. He was involved in a car crash on Jupiter Island that flipped his Land Rover.
A breathalyzer test at the scene found no alcohol in Woods’ system, but he refused to take a urine test. Officers found two hydrocodone pills on him during a search following the crash.
