Ten Street Fairs Across New York City Before Winter Sets In

Street fairs are running across the five boroughs through October and into November, offering food, shopping and entertainment before colder weather sets in.

New York City’s street fair season is winding down, but organizers across the five boroughs have scheduled a string of outdoor markets through October and into November, giving residents several more weekends of food vendors, local merchandise and car-free strolling before colder weather arrives.

The Bronx opens the stretch with the 161st Street Friday Fair on Oct. 16, a community festival near Yankee Stadium offering arts and crafts, food and entertainment along East 161st Street between Grand Concourse and Walton Avenue.

In Queens, the Forest Hills Autumn Fair runs Sunday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. along 71st/Continental Avenue between Queens Boulevard and Austin Street. The fair features arts and crafts, antiques, collectibles, food vendors, children’s rides, live music and games.

Manhattan’s Upper West Side hosts the 31st annual Upper Broadway Harvest Fair, a longstanding neighborhood tradition spanning Broadway from West 96th to West 106th streets, with crafts, merchandise, food and rides.

Brooklyn’s Court Street Spectacular, described by organizers as the borough’s last major street fair of the year, takes place Oct. 25 along Court Street between Atlantic Avenue and Joralemon Street in Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill. The free, all-ages event includes merchants, skincare and homeware vendors, fried Oreos and amusement rides for children.

Downtown Brooklyn’s Fulton Mall/MetroTech Series Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Lawrence Street between Fulton and Willoughby streets, with handmade goods, vintage items, collectibles, food and live music.

In Manhattan, the Midtown West Fair stretches eight blocks along Eighth Avenue from West 42nd to West 50th streets, near Hell’s Kitchen and the Theatre District.

The Union Square Autumn Fair runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. along 17th Street between Broadway and Park Avenue South, rain or shine, with vendors selling mini pumpkins, fresh fruit, Latin American barbecue and fall sweaters, near Union Square’s Greenmarket.

On Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, a free festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. along Broadway between Liberty Street and Battery Place in Lower Manhattan, coinciding with the city’s annual Veterans Day Parade up Fifth Avenue from 26th Street, which typically ends between 47th and 50th streets.

Also in Lower Manhattan, the Financial Community Fall Fair runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Park Place between Broadway and Church Street, offering snack and clothing vendors.

Rounding out the season, a fair along Sixth Avenue from 23rd to 34th streets runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., covering Chelsea, Flatiron and NoMad with food and merchandise vendors.
