A Towanda woman has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide after her husband and their 3-year-old son were found stabbed to death inside a hotel room at the Great Wolf Lodge resort in Scotrun, Monroe County, authorities said.
Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, was taken into custody after Pocono Township police responded to room 2030 at the resort around 3:13 p.m. on Oct. 12, according to a criminal complaint. Police said Harrison had called emergency dispatchers seeking help dying.
When officers arrived, they found Harrison at the doorway with bleeding cuts on her wrist and puncture wounds around her neck. She told investigators she wanted to be with her husband and son, according to the affidavit.
Inside the room, police found Charles Harrison with multiple stab wounds to his chest. The couple’s 3-year-old son, identified in the complaint only by his initials, had a single stab wound to his chest.
Harrison was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital’s Monroe Campus in Stroudsburg for treatment.
According to the affidavit, Harrison made several statements to emergency responders, including during the ambulance ride to the hospital.
“It wasn’t supposed to end like this. I was supposed to have my happy family. That’s what I envisioned since I was a child,” she allegedly said.
“Every day, I work so hard. To be the best person, the best mother, the best wife,” she also told responders, according to the complaint.
Investigators recovered a large kitchen knife on the bathroom floor and a smaller knife on the bathroom sink, both with teal green handles. Resort staff told police the knives were not items the lodge stocks in its rooms. Several medication bottles were also found scattered throughout the room, according to the affidavit.
Records obtained from lodge security show the family checked into the resort on Sept. 21 and extended their stay multiple times, with a checkout eventually scheduled for Oct. 13. Surveillance footage showed all three family members entering the room around 6:53 p.m. the night before the killings. Harrison and her husband were later seen visiting the resort’s arcade before returning to the room around 11:22 p.m., police said.
Monroe County District Attorney Michael Mancuso called the criminal complaint “disturbing reading” and said the investigation is ongoing.
“The investigation continues as we gather further evidence shedding light on the circumstances surrounding this horrendous situation,” Mancuso said in a statement.
Mancuso thanked Pocono Township police, Pennsylvania State Police forensic investigators and the Monroe County Coroner’s Office for their work processing what he described as a “complex double homicide scene.” He also stressed that Harrison is presumed innocent and that prosecutors bear the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Police characterized the deaths as an isolated domestic incident and said there is no ongoing threat to the community. Great Wolf Lodge had not responded to a request for comment as of publication.
