A federal immigration operation in Harris County ended with one man hospitalized and another still being sought after both fled on foot from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers on Saturday morning.
According to information ICE provided to Breitbart Texas, officers moved in around 8:30 a.m. on October 10 to arrest Jose Mendoza-Cervantes, a Mexican national the agency describes as a public safety threat. ICE says Mendoza-Cervantes has four prior arrests for driving under the influence, an arrest for unlawful possession of a firearm, and a final removal order issued by a federal immigration judge. He has reportedly been deported twice after entering the country illegally five times.
ICE officers had Mendoza-Cervantes under surveillance when they saw him get into a vehicle with another Mexican national, Miguel Parra-Hernandez. When officers attempted a traffic stop, both men pulled over and ran, according to ICE.
During the foot pursuit, Parra-Hernandez ran into the path of an ICE vehicle and was struck. Officers gave him immediate medical aid and called EMS. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is listed in stable condition.
Mendoza-Cervantes was not apprehended and remains at large. ICE is asking anyone with information on his location to call the agency’s tip line at 1-866-347-2423, or 001-1802-872-6199 from outside the United States, or to submit a tip through ICE’s online tip form.
ICE officials tied the incident to a broader pattern of resistance to its operations, saying the attempt to flee came after what the agency described as sanctuary-city politicians holding webinars and circulating guidance on how to avoid ICE. The agency did not name specific officials or events in the material provided to Breitbart Texas.
