Texas-born country singer Koe Wetzel has posted photos of a large bull elk he harvested with a compound bow, continuing what has been a notably active hunting season for several country music performers.
Wetzel shared the image on Instagram Wednesday, posing behind the animal with his bow resting across it. The caption read simply, “Oklahoma Breakdown,” a possible reference to either the hunt’s location or a song by Stoney LaRue. The post did not specify where the hunt took place or any details about the animal’s score.
The photo came a day after Wetzel posted other images on Instagram with the caption, “Posted from a remote area hunting elk.”
Wetzel, 34, grew up hunting in East Texas and has said he received his first bow at age 8. In a 2024 interview with Hook & Barrel, he said he still practices archery year-round, sometimes bringing bows with him while on tour.
This is not his first large elk. Wetzel has previously harvested a bull in New Mexico with a rifle shot reported at more than 540 yards. During a 2025 appearance on the “Country Outdoors” podcast, he also spoke about taking a bull elk measuring more than 380 inches, though it is unclear whether that was the same animal referenced in New Mexico.
Wetzel has made clear that hunting season takes precedence over much else in his schedule. During a June appearance on “Country Outdoors,” he said:
“October to February don’t call me cause you’re probably not gonna get a nice response.”
Wetzel joins a string of country artists who have been hunting this fall, including Luke Combs, Riley Green, Parker McCollum, Sam Barber and Chris Janson, who recently described his own elk hunt in Colorado.
