Comedian Jon Lovitz declined to engage with pointed comments made by Crystal Hefner, Hugh Hefner’s widow, who recently labeled him Playboy Mansion’s “No. 1 customer” and one of “the biggest pervs” in Hollywood.
Lovitz, 69, was approached leaving a restaurant in Los Angeles on Tuesday night and responded to the remarks, which Crystal made during an appearance on the “Lisa Guerrero Unleashed” podcast.
“Any time someone says I’m No. 1, it’s a compliment,” Lovitz said, taking the comment in stride rather than disputing it.
He then turned his response toward Hugh Hefner himself, the late Playboy founder who died in 2017 at age 91.
“Hugh Hefner was one of the nicest, most generous people I’ve ever met, and all of his friends know it. That’s all I have to say about that.”
On the Tuesday podcast episode, Crystal had described Lovitz as a “lurker” at the Holmby Hills mansion, once famous for its lavish parties.
“He would be up there all the time. His eyes would go front to back [looking at] all the women that walked through the door at the party.”
She also claimed that Lovitz’s dog repeatedly caused a mess at the gatherings, saying, “I remember him. Every time, every party.”
A marriage that spanned decades of age difference
Crystal began dating Hugh Hefner when she was 21. The two got engaged in 2010, when she was 24 and he was 84. They called off a planned wedding just days before the ceremony in 2011 but reconciled, eventually marrying in 2012. They remained together until his death in 2017.
Other Hollywood names drawn into the mansion stories
Crystal’s comments about Lovitz came amid a broader wave of recollections about the mansion’s social scene. On her own show, “After the Mansion,” she also claimed that actor Jack Nicholson treated the property like a personal pit stop.
“They used to call it Jack Nicholson’s drive-thru at one point because he would drive up, grab some food or whatever else he could get there and leave.”
Nicholson’s daughter, Lorraine, offered her own recollections of the mansion in a 2024 essay for Vanity Fair, where she wrote that she spent much of her childhood there playing with Hefner’s sons, Marston and Cooper, and suggested she was there far more often than her father.
“People assume that my father took me to the Mansion, but they assume wrong. In fact, I can venture with confidence that I spent more time there than my father ever did.”
Crystal also described her late husband as deeply drawn to fame and celebrity culture, recalling visits from figures including Bill Maher, Motown founder Berry Gordy, astronaut Buzz Aldrin and the actress who originated the role of Catwoman.
Despite the unflattering anecdotes surfacing about mansion life, Crystal has spoken warmly of her marriage in the past. Shortly after Hefner’s death, she told Fox News Digital she was grateful for what their relationship gave her.
“He taught me love. He taught me kindness. He gave me life. He really did. He opened my mind, my world, to all of these opportunities and experiences I would have never in my lifetime been able to have.”
