Gypsy Rose Blanchard is asking the public to sign an online petition supporting what she calls “Kenan’s Law,” a proposed measure aimed at how social media platforms respond to repeated harassment reports, following the death of her fiancé, Ken Urker.
“In honor of Ken, I am asking for your support for Kenan’s Law. 🤍,” Blanchard wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday.
In the post, Blanchard, 35, said Urker faced an “overwhelming amount of online scrutiny” before his death that she and others believed amounted to targeted harassment and cyberbullying. “Reports were made across multiple platforms, and far too often, the response was simply: ‘No violation,'” she wrote.
She described the proposed law as an effort focused on “changing the way social-media platforms handle repeated reports of harassment,” arguing that a pattern of posts, videos and comments aimed at one person can reveal harm that a single post might not show.
“This is not about silencing criticism or taking away anyone’s freedom of speech. Public figures can and should be criticized. But public figures are still human beings, and fame should never erase someone’s humanity.”
Blanchard said Urker’s death has left her “determined to turn pain into purpose.” “I cannot change what happened, but I can advocate for a better system for the next person who feels like no one is listening,” she wrote, asking supporters to sign and share the petition.
Circumstances of Urker’s death
Urker was found unresponsive at a home in Louisiana on Oct. 1, his 34th birthday. He was reportedly discovered by a family member after he did not respond to a text message from Blanchard wishing him a happy birthday.
Blanchard later told TMZ that her “forever soulmate” died of an overdose. Separately, Urker was reportedly found with drugs, drug paraphernalia and a handgun at the time of his death.
Urker’s sister, Autumn Urker, has disputed Blanchard’s account and criticized her public statements. “She hasn’t even called my mother or any of us yet,” Autumn told the Daily Mail. In a separate interview with the US Sun, Autumn said Blanchard “had no right to lie and say that it was because of some text that she sent to him,” disputing the circumstances Blanchard described surrounding how Urker was found.
A long, complicated relationship
Blanchard and Urker had an on-again, off-again relationship dating back years. Urker proposed to her in 2018 while she was serving an eight-year prison sentence for the 2015 murder of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. The couple later split, and in July 2022 Blanchard married another pen pal, Louisiana teacher Ryan Scott Anderson, while still incarcerated.
Three months after her release from prison in 2024, Blanchard filed for divorce from Anderson and reconnected with Urker. The couple shared a 1-year-old daughter, Aurora, born in December 2024. Urker and Blanchard had reportedly split quietly about a month before his death.
