Giants Get Paulson Adebo Back at Practice Ahead of Houston Matchup

Cornerback Paulson Adebo practiced for the first time since being placed on injured reserve, raising hope he could play Sunday as the Giants travel to face a surging Texans team despite a wave of injuries on both sides of the ball.

The New York Giants got a boost to their battered secondary on Wednesday as cornerback Paulson Adebo returned to practice for the first time since landing on injured reserve, opening the door for him to play Sunday against the Texans in Houston.

Adebo, in the second year of a three-year, $54 million contract, has not played since suffering a knee injury in the Giants’ season opener. He was placed on IR on Sept. 18, missed four games under that designation, and has now sat out five straight overall.

His return to the practice field comes at a critical time for a Giants secondary that took another hit Wednesday when safety Jevon Holland was added to the injury report with a concussion. Holland did not practice, and neither did cornerback Greg Newsome II, who is also dealing with a concussion.

Rookie cornerback Colton Hood, who sat out Sunday’s loss, also returned to practice Wednesday. Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds missed practice with a shoulder injury, adding further uncertainty to the defense.

The Giants will need their secondary at full strength Sunday against a Houston team riding momentum. Quarterback C.J. Stroud has been sharp of late, particularly in a strong performance against Jacksonville in London last week, as the Texans have now won two straight games.

Defensive end Abdul Carter practiced Wednesday after being limited last week with a calf injury. He said he felt “great” heading into the matchup and spoke about the challenge of containing Stroud.

“He’s been good this year,” Carter said. “He’s been pinpoint accurate. We’ve got to get him off his first look, pressure him and put him on the ground to make things hard for him.”

Offensive line also banged up

Injuries aren’t limited to the defense. Tackles Andrew Thomas (groin) and Jermaine Eluemunor (calf) both sat out Wednesday’s practice. Thomas left the final two series of the Giants’ game against the Saints with the groin injury, which has bothered him since Week 2, though he has started every game this season despite limited practice time.

Marcus Mbow, who filled in for Eluemunor against New Orleans, was also held out Wednesday with a knee issue. If Thomas can’t go Sunday, rookie J.C. Davis would start at left tackle after making his first career appearance last week.

With the offensive line thin, the Giants signed lineman Josh Sills off the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad. Sills, 28, has appeared in just three games since 2023. He was acquitted of rape and kidnapping charges in 2023 while a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Elsewhere on the injury report, tight end Theo Johnson (neck) returned to practice after missing Sunday’s game, and punter Jordan Stout was a limited participant with a knee issue.
