Los Angeles Dodgers fans began streaming out of Dodger Stadium before the ninth inning Wednesday night as the team fell 6-2 to the Milwaukee Brewers, pushing the Dodgers to the brink of being swept out of the NLCS.
The loss leaves Los Angeles trailing the series 3-0, one defeat away from being eliminated by the Brewers. Dodger Stadium itself showed signs of the strain before the game even started: seats sat empty from the opening pitch through the final out, despite ticket prices dropping 42% ahead of the game.
Milwaukee’s Jackson Chourio set the tone immediately, hitting the game’s first pitch over the right-center-field fence for a solo home run. Dodgers starter Blake Snell settled in after that, striking out nine batters over six innings.
Los Angeles finally took its first lead of the night in the sixth inning. Catcher Will Smith, who had spent much of the day welcoming a newborn child, came through with the bases loaded and one out, lining a two-RBI double to bring home Kyle Tucker and Teoscar Hernandez. The Dodgers again struggled to capitalize fully, however, as Shohei Ohtani and Smith were left stranded on second and third after Kiké Hernández and Tommy Edman both struck out to end the inning — a recurring issue for the team with runners in scoring position this postseason.
Snell ran into trouble in the seventh. After allowing just two hits and a walk through his first six innings, he gave up that same total again in the seventh — and the Brewers made it count. Jake Bauers worked an 11-pitch at-bat before driving a two-run homer, and Garrett Mitchell followed with a 428-foot blast to center field off a hanging changeup, putting Milwaukee ahead 4-2.
The Brewers added another run in the eighth inning, by which point many fans had already left the ballpark. Joey Ortiz capped the scoring with an RBI single in the late innings for the final 6-2 margin.
The Dodgers, who have not been swept in the playoffs since 2023, will host Milwaukee for Game 4 at Dodger Stadium on Thursday at 6 p.m. PT, needing a win to keep their season alive.
