A 22-year-old Dallas mother has been charged with two counts of manslaughter after investigators say she was driving 82 mph in a 35 mph zone when she crashed into a car carrying two recent Southern Methodist University graduates, killing both of them.
Aldrea Rogers, 22, was booked into the Dallas County Jail on Oct. 16, according to jail records reviewed by Fox News Digital. Bond was set at $250,000 for each manslaughter count, bringing her total bond to $500,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.
The victims, Julian Harris, 23, and Madison Duren, 22, had both graduated from SMU, where they bonded over a shared interest in theater. According to an arrest affidavit cited by FOX 4 Dallas, Harris was driving a Toyota Prius with Duren in the passenger seat when he attempted a left turn onto a major roadway as the couple left their apartment.
Their car was struck by a Hyundai Elantra that investigators say Rogers was driving at a high rate of speed. Harris died at the scene. Duren was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
Rogers’ two young children were also in her vehicle at the time of the crash. All three survived.
Friends of the couple, Eli Barron and Emmet Overcarsh, told FOX 4 Dallas that Harris and Duren were curious, enthusiastic people who loved learning and connecting with others. Both had remained active in Dallas’ theater community after graduating from SMU.
Overcarsh said it was hard to comprehend that Rogers, who was the same age as Harris and Duren, allegedly had her two young children in the car when the crash occurred.
A memorial service for Harris and Duren is scheduled for Oct. 31 at Southern Methodist University.
