C.W. Morgan, the actor who played Hank Loomis, the father of Ghostface killer Billy Loomis, in the 1996 horror film “Scream,” has died at age 72.
Los Angeles Medical Examiner records obtained by the Daily Mail show the actor, born Curtis Wade Morgan, died on Aug. 30 in Los Angeles County. The records indicate he died in the bathroom, and his cause of death remains unclear. An LAPD spokesperson told TMZ that officers responded to a call for a death investigation and that the death appears to have been from natural causes.
Morgan’s daughter, Renata Macfie, confirmed his death on her Facebook page on Aug. 31 with a tribute to her father.
“I’m never going to have the right words for this post. Loosing [sic] you has left the biggest hole in my heart,” she wrote alongside a childhood photo of the two of them.
Macfie continued, “I miss you endlessly already. I will carry on our Mulholland drives and our Starbucks outings. I’m grateful and lucky to have had you as my daddy. My Guck. Rest easy bubby.”
She closed her tribute by writing, “Life will never be the same without you and your poorly timed jokes that I inherited from you. Love you endlessly (no more fighting about that anymore I win).”
A Role in Horror Film History
Morgan was best known for playing Hank Loomis, a prominent lawyer and the ex-husband of Nancy Loomis, portrayed by Laurie Metcalf, in “Scream.” In the film, Hank’s affair with Maureen Prescott, mother of protagonist Sidney Prescott, shattered the Loomis family and set his son Billy — the original Ghostface killer — on his murderous path.
Morgan returned to the franchise in 2000 for a flashback scene in “Scream 3.” His final screen role came that same year, as Coleman Spencer in an episode of “Nash Bridges.”
