Former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow says he is “pausing” his relationship with Life Surge, a Christian-focused business and investment organization, after an investigative report accused the group of pressuring people into paying thousands of dollars for financial advice that produced no return.
The report, from investigative reporter Pablo Torre in collaboration with Mother Jones, alleged that Life Surge used Tebow as part of a business model the outlets described as predatory. Mother Jones reported that Tebow spoke at 20 Life Surge events between 2024 and 2025 and had been scheduled to appear at roughly as many events in 2026.
Tebow, who built his football legacy at the University of Florida before an NFL and broadcasting career, addressed the allegations directly with The Gainesville Sun.
“I think the allegations are extremely, extremely serious, and it’s something that we take very serious,” Tebow said. “And so, for us, we’re having our team do an investigation, but also pausing our relationship until we can learn more about the facts to be able to understand more.”
The report has also drawn a sharp response from radio host Craig Carton, who runs OutKick’s “The Craig Carton Show.” Carton did not dispute the substance of Torre’s investigation into Life Surge but argued that tying Tebow’s name to the allegations without proof that Tebow knew of any wrongdoing was unfair and potentially damaging.
“Tim Tebow doesn’t deserve to be dragged into this unless you got him nailed. And if you don’t have him nailed to the cross on this story, you have defamed him. And if I’m Tim Tebow, I find that to be actionable. I find that to be regrettable,” Carton said.
Carton called Torre a “brilliant investigative reporter” but said he believed Torre was using Tebow’s name recognition to draw attention to the story.
“You’re using Tim Tebow’s name and popularity to further your own career. You’re using Tim Tebow to get attention for your story. Whether that story is accurate or not, I’ll take the leap of faith that you’ve reported as an allegation about this Life Surge company that it might even be accurate and factual, and we need to get involved. We need to get district attorneys involved and do a thorough, real investigation to see if they’re committing some type of predatory fraud against honest, God-fearing, blue-collar people who might be losing their life savings under the guise of religion,” Carton said. “That would be awful if that’s happening. But how dare you sully the name and reputation of a man who has only done things for others? A man that has dedicated his life to service of his Lord.”
Carton said the report put Tebow, who has not been shown to have known about or participated in the alleged conduct, in the position of having to publicly respond and defend his reputation.
“When you go down that road and you sully the reputation of somebody who’s dedicated his entire life to service, that is a slippery slope that I want no part of,” Carton said. “So, you better have this locked down, Pablo, and maybe you do, but to throw out an allegation, attach a dude’s name to it? Shame on you.”
For now, Tebow says his team is conducting its own review of Life Surge while the relationship remains on hold.
