Actress and comedian Rosie O’Donnell posted a video to Instagram on Thursday showing her singing Helen Reddy’s 1972 anthem “I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar” alongside several women who were victims of Jeffrey Epstein.
In the video, O’Donnell, dressed in white along with the group, addressed the women before they sang together. “I’m sorry that our country is so fucked up,” she told them. “I know it’s been very hard for you, and with very little support. And I’m sorry that our country is so fucked up that this is what you have to live through, because you are all heroes.”
She added, “And you’re going to change how the world deals with child sex abuse.”
In the caption accompanying the post, O’Donnell explained her motivation for organizing the performance, writing that she acted after the attorney general — whom she described as Trump’s former personal lawyer — “implied that he did not believe men accused of sex abuse would be charged as a result of the Epstein files” despite what she called “mountains of evidence.” She wrote that she then called some Epstein survivors and asked them to sing the Reddy song with her, saying it had taught her at age 10 “to use my voice.”
The caption continued: “Show [your] support for abuse survivors — Brave enough to speak out — ‘Yes I am wise – but it’s wisdom born of pain…'”
The video closes with a series of portraits of the Epstein victims from their younger years, followed by the words “Support Survivors” and “The Epstein Files” displayed on screen.
Recent public statements
The video follows a string of recent social media posts by O’Donnell. Earlier this week, she compared the United States to fascist Germany and accused the U.S. of “raping children” in ICE detention facilities in a video posted online. In July, O’Donnell, who relocated to Ireland last year, posted a TikTok video mocking President Trump’s anatomy and referencing “dirty diapers,” days after saying Trump was “obsessed” with her. O’Donnell is 64 years old.
