New Poll Shows Ossoff Ahead in Senate Race, Governor’s Contest Too Close to Call

A new YouGov poll shows Sen. Jon Ossoff with a double-digit lead over Rep. Mike Collins, while Georgia’s governor’s race between Rick Jackson and Keisha Lance Bottoms remains a near-tie.

A new YouGov poll shows Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff (D) holding a substantial lead over Rep. Mike Collins (R) in next year’s U.S. Senate race, while the state’s governor’s race between Rick Jackson (R) and Keisha Lance Bottoms (D) remains essentially tied.

The poll has Ossoff, who is seeking a second term, ahead of Collins 51 percent to 41 percent among all respondents. Among voters identified as strict likely voters, that lead narrows slightly to 51 percent to 43 percent. Collins represents Georgia’s 10th congressional district and owns a trucking company.

Ossoff performs strongest with younger voters, leading 67 percent to 24 percent among those ages 18-29 and 58 percent to 32 percent among those 30-44. He also holds a narrow edge among voters 47-64, 47 percent to 46 percent. Collins leads only among voters 65 and older, 52 percent to 42 percent.

The poll also shows a racial divide in the contest: Ossoff leads among black voters 83 percent to 11 percent, while Collins leads among white voters 57 percent to 35 percent. About 6 percent of all respondents were undecided, dropping to 5 percent among strict likely voters.

RealClear Polling currently rates the Senate race a toss-up, though its polling average shows Ossoff ahead by 7.5 points. The contest is being watched closely because it could help determine which party controls the Senate for the remainder of President Donald Trump’s second term. Ossoff has previously been described as the most vulnerable Senate Democrat up for reelection, and he is also widely seen as a potential 2028 presidential contender. Collins, now in his second House term, has notched early legislative wins, including Trump’s signing of the Laken Riley Act.

Governor’s Race Remains a Dead Heat

Georgia’s race for governor is far tighter. The poll shows Jackson, a billionaire healthcare executive, leading Bottoms, the former Atlanta mayor, 45 percent to 44 percent overall. Among strict likely voters, Jackson’s edge grows slightly to 47 percent versus 44 percent. Nine percent of voters remain undecided in that race.

Bottoms leads among younger voters, 55 percent to 33 percent among those 18-29 and 51 percent to 33 percent among those 30-44. Jackson leads among older voters, 50 percent to 41 percent among those 45-64 and 56 percent to 33 percent among those 65 and older.

As in the Senate race, there’s a sharp racial split: Bottoms leads among black voters 76 percent to 11 percent, while Jackson leads among white voters 62 percent to 27 percent.

RealClear Polling also rates the governor’s race a toss-up, with its average showing Jackson ahead by just 0.4 points.

The poll surveyed 3,447 registered Georgia voters between September 15 and 18, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percent.
