MLB Explores Possible Game at Grand Teton National Park, But No Permits Yet

Major League Baseball has approached federal officials about the possibility of staging a game inside Grand Teton National Park, according to a White House statement confirming the league’s outreach. The idea would echo MLB’s popular Field of Dreams game in Iowa, but the project remains in its earliest stages and has not received any formal approval.

The White House said MLB reached out to the Trump administration to ask about hosting a game on national park land, but was careful to clarify that the effort is coming from the league, not from Washington.

“This is not a Presidential directive, nor is it being directed by the White House. It’s also not being driven by the Department of Interior,” the White House statement said. “Therefore, this is not a White House or Administration priority.”

Officials also noted that the National Park Service has not issued any permit for the project, and MLB has not finalized any venue plans. “If the MLB wants to go on site visits of national parks, that is their prerogative,” the administration said.

Reports indicate that National Park Service Deputy Director Frank Lands traveled to Wyoming and inspected three potential sites inside Grand Teton National Park. The White House later pushed back on the idea that Lands was scouting baseball locations specifically, saying he was on a routine tour of several parks.

Any game at Grand Teton would face significant hurdles beyond league scheduling. Building a temporary stadium on park land would likely require environmental reviews, public comment periods and extensive permitting before construction could begin. Wildlife management would also be a factor, given the presence of grizzly bears, bison and elk in the area.

MLB has had success in recent years with one-off games at unconventional sites, including the Field of Dreams game in Iowa, the Little League Classic in Williamsport, a game at Rickwood Field in Alabama, and an event at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2025. The league’s special-event schedule for 2027 has already been set, meaning 2028 would be the earliest a Grand Teton game could realistically happen, if it moves forward at all.

For now, no permits have been granted, no site has been chosen, and the White House has stressed that the project is not being pursued by the federal government.
