A magnesium supplement is drawing attention online after some users claimed it helped them sleep without relying on prescription medication. NOW Supplements Magnesium Glycinate is currently priced at $19 on Amazon ahead of the retailer’s October Prime Day event, which runs Oct. 6 through Oct. 7, 2026, though some deals have already gone live.
The supplement’s active ingredient, magnesium glycinate, is a form of the mineral magnesium, which plays a role in producing melatonin, the hormone that helps regulate the body’s sleep-wake cycle.
Research backs up some of the broader claims about magnesium’s effects on sleep. A European clinical trial examining magnesium supplementation’s impact on sleep quality, mood and activity levels concluded that the mineral “may be an effective nonpharmacological intervention to promote sleep and mood.”
Among Amazon reviewers, several described strong personal results. One user said she stopped taking Ambien, a prescription sleep medication she had used for years, after switching to the magnesium supplement.
“I never went back to Ambien, even though I had been using it for several years, and I never thought I’d be able to get a full night’s sleep without it,” the reviewer wrote. “For me, this has been the best sleep support I’ve found that actually works, and I’ve tried so many things. I take two each night, and it really helps me relax, calm nighttime anxiety and wind me down so I can fall asleep more easily.”
Other reviewers reported benefits beyond sleep. Older research suggests magnesium supplementation may help prevent muscle cramps in people who are deficient in the mineral or have low magnesium levels.
“This magnesium glycinate has helped my nighttime leg cramps so much,” another reviewer wrote. “After taking it consistently, I noticed a huge difference in how often I was waking up with painful cramps, and now I’m finally sleeping much more comfortably through the night.”
The NOW formula is third-party tested for purity and potency and carries GMP Quality Assurance certification. As with any supplement, consulting a physician before starting a new regimen is advised.
October Prime Day, also known as Prime Big Deal Days, is Amazon’s major fall sale event and is exclusive to Prime members, though the company offers a 30-day free trial for shoppers who want access to the discounts without a paid membership.
