A Keene couple known for writing Christian books about forgiveness and relationships are facing child abuse charges after a high school teacher alerted police to allegations brought by a minor.
Seth Michael Day and Heather Thompson Day, both 39, were charged on Friday, according to Fox 4 DFW. The Keene Police Department got involved after the teacher reported accusations from the minor.
The minor told investigators that Seth hit her in the face and chest with her cell phone. Officers said they observed visible cuts and bruises on the victim.
According to the report, Heather allegedly watched the assault happen and did not intervene. She is also accused of telling the child to wear a face mask to hide the injuries and to lie to doctors by saying she didn’t know how they happened.
Further investigation led to an additional felony charge against Seth for sexual assault of a child. Seth, a psychology professor at Southwestern Adventist University, has been placed on administrative leave from the school.
The couple lives in Keene, a Johnson County city that serves as a major center for the Seventh-day Adventist community. Seth and Heather are both prominent, well-known members of that community, according to the Texas State Historical Association.
