Actor Chad Lowe’s 13-year-old daughter, Fiona, has died, according to a statement released by the family. She was weeks shy of her 14th birthday.
“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance,” the family said in a statement. “She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives. Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time.”
The statement did not disclose how Fiona died, and the family has not shared further details. It included a note directing anyone struggling with mental health to call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Lowe, 58, best known for his role in “Life Goes On” and for appearing in “Pretty Little Liars,” shares three daughters — Mabel, 17, Fiona and Nixie, 10 — with his wife, Kim Painter. The couple has been married since August 2010. Mabel was born in May 2009, Fiona in November 2012 and Nixie in March 2016.
In the months before Fiona’s death, Lowe had repeatedly spoken publicly about the joy of raising his daughters. During a December 2025 appearance on the “Still Here Hollywood” podcast, he described what it meant to be a father to three girls.
“It’s so interesting because always wanting to have my own experiences and not live in the shadow or follow in the footsteps of somebody, I get the experience of being a girl dad, which is such a privilege,” Lowe said. “I feel like having daughters is such an incredible privilege because it takes what I have known intellectually about women and all the equality and the glass ceiling that’s there, and how it’s a misogynistic world in many ways. And now it’s taken what I’ve known, and it’s put it in my heart because I now have three daughters. So, I look at the world from, really, their perspective.”
The family’s ties to California extended beyond their home life. Last February, weeks after Los Angeles-area wildfires destroyed the family’s house, Lowe posted an Instagram photo of the family returning to see what remained of the property.
“Almost a month after we evacuated our girls finally got to go back to see what’s left of their home,” he wrote at the time, calling the way his wife and daughters handled the loss “nothing short of remarkable.”
“I am in awe of their spirit and resilience. Helping them navigate these tough times is my sole purpose. Being their dad is my life’s greatest joy and privilege,” Lowe wrote.
Last November, Lowe marked Fiona’s 13th birthday on Instagram, writing, “Celebrating Fiona officially becoming a teen today!! Keep dancing through life FiBear! Love you soooo much!!”
In 2024, during a family ski trip to Mammoth Mountain in California, Lowe posted about not taking “one moment of it for granted,” tagging the post “blessed” and “girl dad.”
Lowe is the younger brother of actor Rob Lowe. The family has asked for privacy as they grieve.
