The latest Big Ten football power rankings show a major shakeup after a tense week of conference play, with Ohio State reclaiming the top spot from previously top-ranked Indiana.
The marquee matchup this weekend pits Ohio State (3-1) against an undefeated Iowa team (4-0) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. PDT, broadcast on CBS. Iowa, long recognized for its stout defense under coach Kirk Ferentz, showed signs of new offensive life in a road win over Michigan capped by a late touchdown drive. A win over Ohio State would cement Iowa as one of the season’s biggest surprises in the conference.
Top of the rankings
Ohio State sits at No. 1 after moving up from No. 2, powered by a receiving corps led by standout Jeremiah Smith. Indiana, previously ranked first, dropped to No. 2 despite its 4-0 record, with its quarterback situation under scrutiny after the departure of Fernando Mendoza left Josh Hoover under center.
Oregon holds steady at No. 3 with a 3-1 record, while Iowa jumped from No. 8 to No. 4 after its offensive breakthrough. USC remains at No. 5 with a 4-1 mark, and UCLA holds at No. 6 undefeated at 4-0.
Middle of the pack
Michigan slipped to No. 7 at 3-1 after a narrow finish went against the Wolverines. Wisconsin made a significant jump from No. 14 to No. 8 with a 3-1 record. Penn State fell sharply from No. 4 to No. 9 despite sitting at 3-1.
Minnesota climbed from No. 13 to No. 10 at 3-1, while Nebraska held at No. 11 despite an unblemished 4-0 record. Washington dropped from No. 9 to No. 12 with a 3-1 mark.
Lower half
Northwestern rose from No. 15 to No. 13 at 2-1. Illinois fell from No. 12 to No. 14 at 2-2, and Michigan State dropped from No. 10 to No. 15 at the same 2-2 record.
Purdue moved up slightly to No. 16 despite a 1-3 record. Rutgers climbed one spot to No. 17 at 1-3. Maryland closed out the rankings at No. 18, falling from No. 16, with a 2-2 record.
