Bavaria Police Data Shows Foreign Nationals Overrepresented in 2025 Murder Suspect Count

New Bavarian police data obtained by the AfD shows foreign nationals made up over 47 percent of murder and manslaughter suspects in 2025, despite holding only 18 percent of the state’s citizenship, as overall cases rose 10 percent from the prior year.

New police statistics obtained by Germany’s Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) party show that non-German citizens made up a disproportionate share of murder and manslaughter suspects in Bavaria in 2025, even as overall violent crime in the state rose.

The data, first reported by Die Welt, shows 405 cases of murder and manslaughter recorded in Bavaria in 2025, a 10 percent increase from the 366 cases logged in 2024.

Of the 466 total suspects identified in the 2025 cases, 246 held German citizenship. The remaining 220 suspects, or just over 47 percent, held foreign citizenship, up from 42 percent the year before. By comparison, roughly 18 percent of Bavaria’s population holds non-German citizenship, meaning foreign nationals appear at a markedly higher rate among suspects than their share of the general population.

According to Die Welt’s reporting on the figures, Romanian nationals made up the largest single group of suspects, followed by Syrians, Turks and Afghans.

The AfD, which obtained the data through parliamentary information requests available to its lawmakers, noted a complicating factor in the statistics: because Germany now permits dual citizenship, some of the suspects counted as German nationals could also hold a second, foreign passport. The party called on police to improve how such data is recorded going forward.

Party leader Alice Weidel used the figures to renew calls for stricter deportation policy, saying, “This is completely unacceptable. We finally need a deportation offensive. A migration turnaround is only possible with the AfD!”

Part of a broader pattern of AfD data requests

The Bavarian murder statistics are the latest in a string of figures the AfD has surfaced through its right to request information from federal and state authorities. In August, a similar request revealed that 104 extremists described as a threat to public safety living in Germany hold dual citizenship, with Turkish-German dual nationals the largest such group, followed by Moroccan-Germans.

Separately, it was reported in November that 130 migrants who had been ordered deported were nonetheless later accused of homicide in 2024, a figure that has fueled criticism of Germany’s deportation enforcement.
