The nightclub 1Oak, a fixture of New York’s bottle-service era that closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, reopened at its former West 17th Street location during New York Fashion Week, drawing a crowd that included Leonardo DiCaprio, Cindy Crawford and her daughter Kaia Gerber, Winnie Harlow, Future, Ice Spice and Anwar Hadid.
Sources told Page Six that the venue, run by Richie Akiva and Darren Dzienciol, is expected to be able to open at the location up to twelve times a year. A source said the reopening drew mobs of people outside trying to get in.
There is also chatter that 1Oak could return permanently at a different venue. One source said the space could host more 1Oak pop-ups, or private events and parties. Another source told Page Six that Akiva is working on reopening at a permanent spot downtown in February.
Dzienciol described the current run at the West 17th Street location as a “farewell tour,” though sources suggest others may have different plans for the club’s future.
1Oak closed during the pandemic and was evicted in 2021 after racking up nearly $1.8 million in back rent, according to court records. A representative for Akiva previously told Page Six that “it was resolved and the funds were ultimately recouped.” The court case was dropped in February 2019.
The club was opened in 2007 by Akiva and former business partner Scott Sartiano and quickly became synonymous with the bottle-service nightlife scene, attracting celebrities including Drake, Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams, Justin Bieber, Lenny Kravitz, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.
It was also the site of notable sports moments: Yankees stars Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter celebrated their 2009 World Series win there, and Mets pitcher Matt Harvey famously partied so hard in 2017 that he missed a game the next day.
