OPINION| In a stunning display of journalistic malpractice, ABC’s George Stephanopoulos has once again shown his true colors by blaming former President Donald J. Trump and his supporters for the recent assassination attempt. This blatant attempt to shift the blame from the actual perpetrator to the victims is not only irresponsible, but also dangerous.
Stephanopoulos, who has a long history of anti-Trump bias, claimed that Trump and his supporters have contributed to a “violent rhetoric” that led to the shooting. This assertion is not only unfounded, but also insulting to the millions of Americans who support the President.
The fact of the matter is that the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was a registered Republican who only participated in the Nov. 8, 2022, state election due to his age. This clearly shows that his actions were not influenced by Trump or his supporters, but rather by his own twisted ideology.
Furthermore, Stephanopoulos conveniently ignores the fact that Trump has consistently called for peaceful protests and has condemned all forms of violence. In fact, it was Trump who signed an executive order to protect monuments and statues from being defaced or destroyed by violent protesters.
It is also worth noting that Stephanopoulos himself has a history of making controversial statements. Just last week, he found himself in hot water when he told TMZ that he did not think President Biden could serve another four years, amid the debate over his mental acuity and ability to beat Trump after his weak debate showing last month.
The reality is that Stephanopoulos is using this tragic event to further his own political agenda and to attack Trump and his supporters. This is not only unethical, but also disrespectful to the victims of the shooting.
As Trump supporters, we must stand strong against these baseless accusations and continue to support our President. We must not let the media and the left-wing elites silence our voices or diminish our support for the President.
Watch below:
Raddatz: Also George we have to point out, no matter who the shooter, what the shooter’s motives were, no matter who the shooter is, you are going to hear conspiracy theories going forward.
Stephanopoulos: No question about that. But as you point out, those statements from JD Vance and Vivek Ramaswamy, of course, President Trump and his supporters have contributed to this violent rhetoric as well.
Raddatz: Well, absolutely, George. We were just looking back this morning at some of the things that former President Trump has said. He warned last March of potential death and destruction if he were charged by the Manhattan District Attorney, our country is being destroyed as they tell us to be peaceful. Trump, in January, warned of bedlam in the country if the criminal charges against him succeeded. And of course, in March, he said, If I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole, that’s going to be the least of it. It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country that will be the least of it. He said he was partly joking and that that was taken out of context, but those are indeed his words, and you have heard it from supporters as well. And supporters are certainly, in some parts angry. And let’s remember January 6. In so many ways for the campaign, January 6 will probably be in the background after yesterday’s event. This is a very difficult time for this campaign. I’m sure this week in Milwaukee that President Trump will highlight this, and President Biden is going to have to figure out how to go forward with his campaign and what exactly they say.
As silly as the satire from the one and holy Babylon Bee may be, it’s a lot closer to the truth than we ever imagined it would be:

In conclusion, George Stephanopoulos’s attempt to blame Trump and his supporters for the shooting is nothing more than a desperate attempt to deflect blame from the actual perpetrator. We must not let the media control the narrative and must continue to support our President and his policies.
Remember, as President Trump once said, “They’re not after me, they’re after you. I’m just in the way.” Let’s stand together and show the world that we will not be silenced.
