OPINION| In a recent fiery interview, conservative commentator Candace Owens called out former CNN anchor Don Lemon on his apparent hypocrisy over the double standards in reporting the January 6 Capitol event and the Black Lives Matter (BLM) riots.
Owens, known for her outspoken views and sharp wit, didn’t hold back as she grilled Lemon on his inconsistent coverage of the two events. The interview, which aired on a popular conservative news network, quickly went viral, with many praising Owens for her fearless approach.
During the interview, Owens pointed out that while Lemon and his colleagues at CNN were quick to condemn the January 6 Capitol rioters as “insurrectionists” and “domestic terrorists,” they had a much softer stance on the BLM protesters who engaged in violent and destructive behavior throughout the summer of 2020.
“It’s interesting how the narrative changes depending on who’s involved,” Owens quipped. “When it’s a group of Trump supporters storming the Capitol, it’s an insurrection. But when it’s a group of BLM protesters setting fire to buildings and looting businesses, it’s a ‘mostly peaceful protest.'”
Lemon, visibly flustered, attempted to defend his network’s coverage, arguing that the two events were not comparable. However, Owens was quick to counter his claims, pointing out the numerous instances of violence and destruction that occurred during the BLM protests.
“So, let me get this straight,” Owens continued. “When BLM protesters are burning down buildings and looting businesses, it’s just a ‘peaceful protest.’ But when a group of Trump supporters break into the Capitol, it’s an insurrection? That doesn’t seem like a double standard to you?”
Lemon, clearly on the defensive, tried to shift the conversation, but Owens was relentless in her pursuit of the truth. She went on to question Lemon’s journalistic integrity, accusing him of being more interested in pushing a political agenda than reporting the facts.
“It’s clear that you and your colleagues at CNN have a certain narrative that you want to push,” Owens stated. “And you’ll twist the facts and ignore the truth to fit that narrative. It’s shameful, really.”
The interview, which lasted nearly an hour, was a masterclass in political discourse. Owens, with her sharp wit and unwavering conviction, exposed the hypocrisy of the mainstream media and their biased coverage of the events.
As the interview came to a close, Owens left Lemon with a final thought: “You can continue to ignore the truth and push your biased narrative, Don. But the American people are smarter than you give them credit for. They see through your lies, and they won’t be fooled.”

The interview has since sparked a national conversation about media bias and the importance of holding journalists accountable for their reporting. Owens, who has become a rising star in conservative circles, has once again proven that she is a force to be reckoned with.
As for Lemon, he has yet to publicly respond to the interview, but sources close to him say that he is “shaken” by the experience. Perhaps this will serve as a wake-up call for him and his colleagues at CNN, and they will finally start reporting the truth, rather than pushing a political agenda.
