OPINION| In a recent episode of “The View,” co-host Joy Behar made headlines for her controversial remarks regarding former President Donald Trump. During a discussion about Trump’s recent appearance at the Republican National Convention, Behar suggested that his bandage “should have been over his mouth.”
Behar, a staunch critic of the former president, didn’t hold back in her criticism. “You know, I think that bandage should have been over his mouth,” she quipped, referring to the bandage Trump wore on his forehead following an assassination attempt.
The comment was met with laughter and applause from the audience, but it didn’t sit well with Trump supporters across the nation. Many took to social media to express their outrage, accusing Behar of being disrespectful and insensitive.
“Joy Behar is a disgrace,” tweeted one user. “She has no respect for our president or the office he held. Shame on her.”
Another user wrote, “The View has become a cesspool of liberal propaganda. Joy Behar’s comments are just another example of their bias and hate.”
Per IJR:
During his speech accepting the Republican presidential nomination, Trump stated it was because of God he was able to stand on the stage after a gunman tried to kill him at a rally.
However, Behar said, “I was raised Catholic. I’m a Christian girl. When something like this happens to you, like this assassination attempt, and you say something like ‘God was watching me,’ that is a very un-Christian thing to say because it’s very narcissistic.”
“What about Corey… what’s his name? Uh… Comperatore. The fireman who also died [at the rally],” Behar continued. “Oh God was watching me and not them? There’s something very disturbing about that.”
Co-host Ana Navarro chimed in, “God should have pulled the plug on that mic yesterday.”
She also suggested the bandage Trump had over his ear “should have been over his mouth.”
Trump supporters argue that Behar’s remarks were not only disrespectful but also hypocritical. They point out that while she criticizes Trump for mentioning God, she herself has made controversial comments about religion in the past.
In a 2017 episode of “The View,” Behar came under fire for suggesting that Vice President Mike Pence’s Christian faith was a “mental illness.” The comment sparked outrage from conservative viewers, who accused Behar of being intolerant and disrespectful towards people of faith.

Trump supporters also point out that Behar’s comments about Trump’s bandage are particularly insensitive given the context of the assassination attempt. They argue that it’s inappropriate to make light of a situation where someone’s life was in danger.
“Joy Behar has no empathy,” tweeted another user. “Trump was almost killed, and she’s making jokes about it. Disgusting.”
The controversy surrounding Behar’s comments highlights the deep divide between Trump supporters and their critics. While some view Behar’s remarks as harmless humor, others see them as a sign of the left’s disrespect and disdain for the former president and his supporters.
As the debate rages on, one thing is clear: Joy Behar’s comments have once again thrust her into the spotlight and further deepened the divide between Trump supporters and their detractors.
