OPINION| President Joe Biden was left reeling after the first presidential debate of 2024, where he faced off against former President Donald Trump. According to a CNN flash poll, a whopping 67% of viewers declared Trump the winner of the debate, leaving Biden with a dismal 33% approval rating.
The debate, which was held at CNN’s studios in Atlanta, Georgia, was a crucial opportunity for both candidates to showcase their vision for the future of America. However, it quickly became apparent that Biden was outmatched by Trump’s sharp wit and commanding presence.
Throughout the debate, Trump hammered Biden on a range of issues, from the economy to foreign policy. He pointed out the failures of the Biden administration, such as the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan and the ongoing crisis at the southern border. Trump also highlighted his own accomplishments during his time in office, such as the historic peace deals in the Middle East and the booming economy before the pandemic.
Biden, on the other hand, struggled to articulate a coherent message and often appeared lost and confused. At one point, he even forgot the name of the current President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, instead referring to him as “the guy who runs that outfit over there.”
