Democrat Senator Institutionalized … Seriously

Sen. John Fetterman has checked himself into hospital in order to be treated for “clinical depression,” just one week after being hospitalised for feeling “lightheaded.”

In a statement, Adam Jentleson, the chief of staff for Fetterman, confirmed that the Pennsylvania Senator had checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, just outside of Washington DC, in order to receive treatment for “clinical depression.”

“While John has experienced depression off and on throughout his life, it only became severe in recent weeks,” Jentleson said. “On Monday, John was evaluated by Dr. Brian P. Monahan, the Attending Physician of the United States Congress. Yesterday, Dr. Monahan recommended inpatient care at Walter Reed. John agreed, and he is receiving treatment on a voluntary basis.”

After an examination, Jentleson said that the doctors have confirmed that Fetterman is “getting the care he needs, and will soon be back to himself.”

This comes only one week after Fetterman was hospitalised overnight in The George Washington University Hospital, for “feeling lightheaded,” when at a retreat for Senate Democrats in Washington DC.

Fetterman suffered a stroke on the campaign trail last year, just before he won the Pennsylvania Senate Democratic primary. Following the stroke, he had surgery to implant a pacemaker with a defibrillator. In October, his doctor declared that he continues to “exhibit symptoms of an auditory processing disorder which can come across as hearing difficulty.”

Since then, he began the use of a closed captioning device to help him, including during an interview with NBC News, and in the main debate against his Republican opponent Dr Oz in October. The Senate in January installed a special closed captioning system for him to use in Congress.

“After what he’s been through in the past year, there’s probably no one who wanted to talk about his own health less than John,” Fetterman’s wife Gisele said in a statement on Twitter. “I’m so proud of him for asking for help and getting the care he needs.”

“This is a difficult time for our family, so please respect our privacy,” she added. “For us, the kids come first. Take care of yourselves. Hold your loved ones close, you are not alone.”
