The official Biden administration White House Twitter account has deleted a tweet the Twitter community judged to contain misinformation regarding American seniors and Social Security checks after the tweet was flagged by Twitter for omitting context.
In the tweet, the White House falsely claimed that “Seniors are getting the biggest increase in their Social Security checks in 10 years through President Biden’s leadership.”
The misinformation contained within the tweet prompted Twitter to flag it with a “context” label, which accurately pointed out that while it is technically true that seniors will see a significant Social Security payment increase, it is due to the high inflation that has come to characterize the economy under Biden.
“Seniors will receive a large Social Security benefit increase due to the annual cost of living adjustment, which is based on the inflation rate,” Twitter explained in its community-driven fact check. Twitter’s context flag added that “President Richard Nixon in 1972 signed into law automatic benefit adjustments tied to the Consumer Price Index.”

“So it was, uh, look. The tweet was not complete. Usually when we put out a tweet, we post it with context, and it did not have that context. So, in the past we’ve pointed out that the first time in our, in over a decade, Seniors, uh, Medicare premiums will, will decrease, even as their Social, uh, Security checks increase,” she claimed.
“That’s a little bit of context that was not included. This means that seniors will have a chance to get ahead of inflation due to the rare combination of rising benefits and falling premiums, and let’s, and let’s not forget, as, as you’ve been hearing me say for the past few minutes about MAGA Republicans in Congress and their continued threat, uh, threaten Social Security and Medicare,” Jean-Pierre said.
“Proposing, uh, proposing to them on the chop-proposing to put them on the chopping blocks, uh, every five years, threatening benefits and to change, uh, eligibility,” the Press Secretary stammered.
KJP says that the White House deleted a tweet which was "contextualized" by users on Twitter because "it was an incomplete tweet."

“Some seniors pay $400 a month for insulin,” noted Biden, ending the true and factual part of his message. “Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, we’re capping that cost at $35 a month.”
Some seniors pay $400 a month for insulin. It’s ridiculous.
Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, we’re capping that cost at $35 a month.

Shockingly, Twitter’s new management saw fit to fact check Biden’s tweet, adding important context.
“While the Inflation Reduction Act capped insulin costs at $35 for individuals on Medicare,” Musk’s Twitter notes in a pop up that is, in fact, larger than Biden’s tweet, “it did not cap costs for seniors on private insurance or anyone under the age of 65.”
