Conservative radio host and Fox News personality Mark Levin said Friday that a reported scheme to run two candidates named Dan Sullivan on Alaska’s U.S. Senate ballot amounted to a Democratic conspiracy aimed at undermining the election, and suggested the plan could lead to criminal indictments.
Appearing on “Hannity,” Levin was asked by host Sean Hannity whether an investigation into the so-called “Decoy Dan” effort, first reported by The New York Times, could result in charges.
“Yeah, I think it absolutely could. First and foremost, people need to understand this is a conspiracy among Democrats to undermine the truthfulness of an election and to pull the blanket over the eyes of the people of Alaska,” Levin said.
Levin described the alleged plan as an attempt to confuse Alaska voters by placing three Republicans and one Democrat on the ballot, calling it “an attack on the citizens of Alaska to try and create a phony ballot, to have a phony candidate.”
He pushed back on claims that Democratic candidate Mary Peltola was not involved in the decision-making behind the effort, saying her campaign manager had acknowledged she knew about it even if she did not direct it.
“The idea that this candidate, Peltola, was not involved in this decision-making is baloney. She knew about it. That’s what the campaign manager said, but she wasn’t involved… if she knew about it, she should hit the brakes and say, don’t do it. But she didn’t do it. It was all for her,” Levin said.
Levin also pointed to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, arguing that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, which reports to Schumer and raises campaign funds under his direction, would not have carried out such a plan without his knowledge.
“Chuck Schumer, you better keep your documents and your texts and your emails, preserve them, because I know you’re behind this, too. This is the kind of sleazy stuff Chuck Schumer would do because he’s desperate to be the majority leader again,” Levin said.
He said Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who leads the committee, along with the candidate and any attorneys involved, should “lawyer up.” Levin said he had heard attorney Marc Elias might be involved but said he could not confirm that as fact.
“This was a scam attempt, not just to steal the race in Alaska, but to steal the United States Senate from the American people. That’s what the Democrat Party was doing. So, of course, there’s potential criminality here,” Levin said.
