A national prediction-market promotion tied to the Presidents Cup will not be available to residents of Illinois, even though the golf tournament itself is being played at Medinah Country Club, just outside Chicago.
Kalshi, a prediction-market platform, is offering new users a promo code, NYPMAX, that lets them trade $25 and receive a $25 bonus tied to contracts on the Presidents Cup. The biennial team competition pits Scottie Scheffler’s Team USA against Hideki Matsuyama’s Team International, with the Americans considered heavy favorites heading into the event.
To use the offer, new traders sign up for a Kalshi account, enter the promo code NYPMAX, verify their account information, and complete at least $25 in trades to qualify for the matching $25 bonus. Kalshi’s platform also allows users to trade contracts on football, international soccer, tennis and daily baseball games.
But the offer, and Kalshi’s trading platform generally, is not available in Illinois. According to Kalshi, the company operates in dozens of states and territories, including neighboring Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin and Kentucky, but Illinois is one of a small number of states — along with Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio and Washington — where its products currently cannot be used.
That leaves Illinois golf fans watching the tournament unfold in their own backyard without access to a national promotion built around it. The Presidents Cup is widely expected to favor the U.S. side, which draws on a deeper roster including Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Cam Young, against an International team leaning on Matsuyama, Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim.
Kalshi notes that its offer is limited to new users, that participants must be 18 or older, and that event-contract trading carries significant risk that may not be appropriate for everyone. The company directs users to its regulatory page for state-by-state availability.
