Former Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned in Georgia on Thursday, stumping for Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff and gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms ahead of Tuesday’s midterm elections.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Harris’s itinerary included stops in Atlanta and Macon, as well as an NAACP town hall held at Elizabeth Baptist Church. The appearances were part of a broader multi-state campaign tour as Harris maintains a visible political presence, with speculation continuing about a possible 2028 presidential run.
During remarks in Georgia, Harris was recorded saying, “Election time is a time to let them know — we are too busy watching what you are doing, to listen to what you are saying!” She also repeated a line she had used previously: “Never let someone else’s limited ability to see your capacity be a limitation on your ambition.”
Clips of the Georgia remarks circulated widely on social media, with some users and commentators noting that Harris’s speaking style in Georgia differed from how she sounded during an appearance in New Hampshire two days earlier, as well as a prior appearance covered by Mississippi Today. Critics online accused Harris of “code-switching” — adjusting her speech pattern depending on the audience — and the clips drew mockery and criticism on platforms including X.
Harris, who was born and largely raised in California, has faced similar criticism in past campaigns over changes in her speaking style across different audiences. The comparison clips, juxtaposing her Georgia and New Hampshire appearances, were shared widely by political commentators as an example of what they characterized as inauthentic messaging.
The controversy comes as Harris continues to campaign for Democratic candidates in competitive races, including Ossoff’s Senate bid and Bottoms’s campaign for governor, in the run-up to Tuesday’s elections.
