Buffalo Traffic Jam sold out two consecutive nights at Irving Plaza in Manhattan, drawing a crowd that sang along to nearly every song during the Oct. 1 show.
The folk-rock duo, made up of frontman Frankie Cassidy and mandolin and guitar player Nathan Ross, met as students at Montana State University in Bozeman. They released their first EP just two years ago, and the band already has slots lined up at Noah Kahan’s Out of the Blue Festival and Stagecoach in 2027.
The stage setup at Irving Plaza was simple, with mismatched rugs giving it a lived-in, dorm-room feel. The crowd, by contrast, was anything but low-key, with concertgoers swaying, fist-pumping and belting out lyrics from early in the set, including on the song “Comfort in Misery.”
The band played 18 songs at the Irving Plaza show, according to Set List FM, including a cover of the traditional song “The House of the Rising Sun.” They also performed several tracks from their recently released debut album, “Pictures of You,” including “Pictures of You,” “Too Young to Die” and “Buyin’ Dirt.”
The biggest reaction of the night came with “Fool’s Gold,” the band’s breakout single, which went gold within a year of release and has surpassed 120 million streams on Spotify. The crowd sang the chorus, “Oh no, don’t go, I’ve been here before,” at full volume.
Buffalo Traffic Jam released their debut album, “Pictures Of You,” on July 31. The record includes the tracks “Hanging on Hope,” “Older,” “Too Young to Die,” “Buyin’ Dirt,” “Graves,” “How to Breathe” and the closing track “Afraid to Fall in Love Again,” along with the title song and “Fool’s Gold.”
Asked which New York venue they’d most like to play, Cassidy and Ross both named Brooklyn Steel.
