The New York Yankees enter Game 2 of their American League Division Series against the Tampa Bay Rays looking to answer back after a 1-0 shutout loss in Game 1 on Saturday night.
Tampa Bay starter Drew Rasmussen held New York to just one hit in the opener, a stark reversal from the Yankees’ 18-run outburst against Boston in the two-game Wild Card round. The Yankees also committed a costly base-running mistake during the loss.
“We just didn’t generate enough obviously,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after the game. “The losses are gut punches but you just gotta keep moving.”
Game 2 is scheduled for tonight at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, with first pitch set for 8 p.m. ET. The Yankees will send ace Cam Schlittler (14-6, 1.95 ERA) to the mound, while the Rays counter with midseason acquisition Freddy Peralta (10-11, 4.42 ERA).
“We’re obviously always thrilled when we hand the ball to Cam and hopefully we can go out and put some [runs] on the board to support him … come out of here with a split and head back home,” Boone said.
The best-of-five series now shifts to a pivotal second game, with the Yankees needing a win to avoid falling into a two-game hole against the AL East champion Rays.
Viewers without cable can watch the game through a live TV streaming service. One option is DIRECTV, which currently offers a five-day free trial and $30 off a first month on its Choice plan, which carries TBS among its channel offerings. As with any promotional deal, terms and pricing are subject to change.
