Dakota Johnson is hosting “Saturday Night Live” for the third time tonight, Oct. 3, with the episode falling just a day before her birthday on Oct. 4. That makes her only the sixth host in the show’s history to appear on an episode on their actual birthday.
Johnson first hosted “SNL” in 2015 to promote “Fifty Shades of Grey,” then returned in January 2024 while promoting “Madame Web.” She’s also known for her role in “Verity” and for appearing in Taylor Swift’s “Patient Zero” music video. Ahead of tonight’s show, “SNL” released promos featuring Johnson alongside breakout cast member Ashley Padilla.
Musical guest duties fall to the hardcore punk band Turnstile, who will be making their first-ever appearance on the show.
How to watch
The episode airs live coast-to-coast at 11:30 p.m. ET / 8:30 p.m. PT, though viewers should note possible delays due to college football coverage, as happened last weekend.
For those without cable, a live TV streaming service is the way to watch for free. DIRECTV offers a five-day free trial and $30 off the first month on its Choice plan, which includes NBC among its 125-plus channels.
Peacock is another option, with a seven-day free trial of Peacock Premium (afterward $16.99 a month). Full episodes of “SNL” are also available to stream on Peacock on Sunday mornings following the live broadcast.
Tonight’s show kicks off Season 52 of “SNL,” which has added only two new cast members this year after growing by five last season.
