Wynonna Judd says she was blindsided after learning that Rosie O’Donnell had described her publicly as a supporter of President Donald Trump, and the country singer is now disputing that characterization.
“I’m in shock, just so you know,” Judd told People. “I’ve never spoken to her about politics in my life. … She doesn’t know anything about my stuff. I’m an independent.”
Judd said she couldn’t trace the claim to any actual conversation between the two. “I don’t know where it came [from]. It’s complete assumption,” she said. “I heard it and I went, ‘What the …?’ I don’t ever remember talking to her about this, so she’s just assuming.'”
She said she isn’t upset, just puzzled. “I’m not angry,” Judd added, saying she was simply confused by where O’Donnell’s comments came from.
Judd also made clear she has no interest in turning the disagreement into a public feud. “I just don’t want drama,” she said. “So, if there’s going to be drama [about it], I’m like, ‘Oh for crap’s sake, there’s so much going on right now in the world. Can we just love each other?'”
Fox News Digital has reached out to O’Donnell for comment.
What O’Donnell said
Judd’s response follows comments O’Donnell made during an August appearance on “The Tangle with Kyle Ridley” podcast, in which she discussed her long friendship with Judd despite their presumed political differences.
“I am friends with Wynonna Judd, who I love very much, and I’ve known her for many, many years. And she is a supporter of Trump. And somehow, we never bring it up,” O’Donnell said.
O’Donnell explained why she felt able to set that apparent difference aside in their friendship.
“I kind of give her a grace in a way. She’s had so much in her life, with her mom taking her own life and just the complicated nature of her upbringing. And I really love her, and I care about her. And, for some reason, I’m able to put that aside when we interact.”
Judd and O’Donnell’s relationship dates back decades. Judd was a recurring guest on O’Donnell’s daytime talk show in the 1990s, and the two have stayed in touch in the years since.
O’Donnell has long been an outspoken critic of Trump, and the two have repeatedly clashed publicly. After Trump won the 2024 presidential election, O’Donnell relocated to Ireland with her child and has continued to comment on American politics from abroad.
