Falcons wide receiver Drake London was caught on camera shouting profanities toward someone in the stands during Atlanta’s 34-3 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The confrontation happened in the third quarter, with fellow receiver Olamide Zaccheaus appearing to step in between London and the person he was yelling at. The Fox broadcast showed only a brief clip of the exchange. At the time, the Falcons trailed 27-3.
Speaking to reporters afterward, London said the person had made comments that crossed a line for him.
“Some personal stuff that was said. I am going to be honest here, I don’t take lightly to disrespect at all. I don’t care who you are. I am a man, too, at the end of the day. If you want to get on a personal level, I can get there, too. But that’s not the right thing to do, right? I have to be the bigger man in some of those situations, but with how the game was going and what was said to me, I didn’t like it,” London said, according to The Athletic.
It was not immediately clear whether the person was a fan. When asked directly, London said only that “it was somebody.” He also acknowledged, according to ESPN, that the lopsided score contributed to his reaction.
The Falcons’ offense struggled throughout the game. London finished with four catches for 51 yards. Quarterback Cooper Rush threw two interceptions and lost a fumble before being benched in the third quarter in favor of undrafted rookie Jack Strand.
Atlanta fans booed the team during the home opener. London said the reaction only motivates him further.
“If we have everybody against us, then all you can do is push forward,” London said, adding that the booing “gives me more juice to go prove everybody wrong.”
