Group Launches Seven-Figure Ad Push Backing Rogers on AI Oversight in Senate Race

A group called Alliance for a Better Future has launched a seven-figure ad campaign in Michigan promoting Senate candidate Mike Rogers’ call for a national security framework on artificial intelligence, days after the Detroit News endorsed him over Democrat Abdul El-Sayed.

A political advocacy group has launched a seven-figure advertising campaign in Michigan promoting Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers’ call for a national security framework to govern artificial intelligence.

The Alliance for a Better Future (ABF) announced the ad buy Friday, saying it wants to highlight safeguards it argues are necessary to protect national security and American families as AI technology develops rapidly.

The ad opens by warning that AI development is outpacing regulation. “Artificial intelligence is moving fast. Maybe too fast,” the narration states. “And even the tech titans know it.” It then plays a clip of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei saying the industry is “moving too fast.”

The spot pivots to Rogers’ record, noting his years chairing the House Intelligence Committee. “He knows how to handle emerging threats,” the narrator says, before describing Rogers’ push for “a national security framework on AI” and “real safeguards to protect Americans from technology we’re only beginning to understand.”

It closes with a pledge: “In the Senate, he’ll make AI safety a top priority. Mike Rogers: protecting Michigan, protecting America.”

ABF CEO Janet Kelly praised Rogers’ position in a statement announcing the campaign.

“Alliance for a Better Future commends Mike Rogers for his courageous stand in support of commonsense guardrails that protect national security and American families,” Kelly said. “His leadership is a model for policymakers across the country to follow.”

The ad will air on broadcast and cable television as well as digital platforms across Michigan. It follows a similar seven-figure issue ad campaign ABF ran earlier this week in Iowa, Kansas, and Maine. The group says its broader goal is ensuring “America leads the world in AI” through governance that is “transparent, accountable, and worthy of the American people’s trust.”

The campaign lands two days after the Detroit News endorsed Rogers in Michigan’s U.S. Senate race over Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, calling him “clearly the best choice.” The paper cited Rogers’ 14 years in Congress, including his chairmanship of the House Intelligence Committee, along with his background as an Army officer and FBI agent. It also raised concerns about El-Sayed, including his lack of government experience, his deletion of social media posts and roughly 100 YouTube videos, his ties to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and other socialist figures, his stance on Israel, and his campaign appearance with Twitch streamer Hasan Piker.
