Outdoor Channel host and conservationist Eva Shockey appeared on the latest episode of “Tomi Lahren Is Fearless” to discuss bear hunting, a practice she says has been part of her life for as long as she can remember.
Asked by host Tomi Lahren why she hunts bears specifically, Shockey pointed to population management rather than personal preference.
“Overpopulation, conservation,” Shockey said. “In my dad’s area, the biologist will say, ‘you need to have this many bears that can sustain the wildlife… and so this is how many you can hunt off of there, you need to hunt off there. Otherwise there will be too many.'”
Shockey said bears that overeat, damage farmers’ crops or wander too close to residential neighborhoods are common reasons wildlife officials authorize hunts in her area.
But when Lahren asked whether she actually eats bear meat, Shockey was candid about her lack of enthusiasm for it.
“You can,” Shockey said. “It’s flavorful in a way that’s not my favorite.”
She noted the meat is edible and often used in sausages, but said she typically donates it to people in her local community rather than keeping it for herself.
“If I had a choice and I have elk in my freezer and bear I would absolutely choose elk,” Shockey said.
Shockey’s comments came as part of a broader conversation on the show about hunting practices and wildlife conservation.
