HBO’s new superhero drama “Lanterns” returns with a fifth episode tonight, Sunday, September 13, airing at 9 PM ET on HBO and streaming on HBO Max.
The series follows veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) as he trains John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), the man he believes is destined to replace him. The show centers on a murder mystery in the small town of Rushville, where aliens were killed during a high school football game and a shape-shifting Manhunter has been hiding among the residents.
Last week’s episode delivered a major twist: the Manhunter turned out to be Zoe (Poorna Jagannathan), the woman John Stewart has been secretly involved with throughout the season. With both Lanterns now aware of the threat in their midst, viewers are watching to see whether Hal and John can finally work as a team to stop it.
“Lanterns” has eight episodes in its first season, with new installments releasing every Sunday through October 4, 2026.
The show is exclusive to HBO and HBO Max. Subscriptions start at $10.99 a month with ads or $18.49 a month without. Viewers can also access it through discounted Disney+ bundles with Hulu and HBO Max, priced at $19.99 a month with ads or $32.99 a month without.
No decision has been made yet on a second season. Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart is already confirmed to appear in next summer’s “Man of Tomorrow,” the Superman sequel.
