Triplemania 34 Brings Lucha Libre to Las Vegas for the First Time, with a Bananas Comparison

Lucha Libre AAA’s Triplemania 34 makes its U.S. debut Friday at Las Vegas’s MGM Grand Garden Arena before moving to Mexico City on Sunday, with WWE broadcaster Corey Graves comparing the promotion’s appeal to the Savannah Bananas.

Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide is bringing its flagship event to the United States for the first time this week, with Triplemania 34’s opening night set for Friday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The second night follows Sunday at Arena CDMX in Mexico City.

The show pairs AAA’s regular Saturday-night roster with a handful of WWE stars, and WWE broadcaster Corey Graves says the crossover is meant to introduce American audiences to a wrestling style they may not fully know yet — while keeping its identity intact.

In an interview with OutKick Dropkick, Graves reached for an unusual comparison to explain AAA’s appeal: the Savannah Bananas, the exhibition baseball team known for costumes, choreography and crowd-pleasing spectacle rather than traditional stats.

“If you’re a Major League Baseball fan, WWE is Major League Baseball. AAA, to me, is sort of, and I mean this in the best way possible, like the Savannah Bananas,” Graves said. “It’s still baseball. All of the things that you know and love about baseball still take place. It’s just through a very different lens.”

Graves said the comparison captures how Lucha Libre works as a spectacle even for viewers unfamiliar with its history.

“There’s incredible things. It’s about moments. It’s about memories,” he said. “It’s less about statistics and long-term records, etc. But it’s about being there and just enjoying what’s happening.”

He said preserving that identity matters even as WWE production values and a few of its stars get folded in.

“We can clean up the production. We can sprinkle in a few WWE superstars here and there. But at its core, it’s still Lucha Libre and TripleMania is AAA’s WrestleMania,” Graves said.

A last-minute venue change

Triplemania 34’s Las Vegas date was originally booked for the Luxor before organizers shifted it to the larger MGM Grand Garden Arena because of ticket demand, according to Graves.

“Within days we were forced to move to the MGM Grand Garden Arena for capacity purposes because there was such a demand,” Graves said. “Obviously, there’s a heavy Latino population around Las Vegas but hopefully it’s showing that English-speaking audiences as well are learning or curious about this new product.”

Graves noted AAA programming airs free every Saturday night at 10 p.m. on YouTube in the United States and much of the world, with television distribution also reaching Mexico, Central America and South America.

The move continues a busy stretch for WWE in Las Vegas, which hosted WrestleMania 41 and 42 at Allegiant Stadium in 2025 and 2026.

What’s on the card

Night 1 in Las Vegas features AAA general manager Rey Mysterio facing Omos, with Omos’s AAA future on the line: a win means he’s welcomed back into the promotion, a loss means permanent exile. Dominik Mysterio will be in Omos’s corner, while El Grande Americano backs Rey Mysterio.

Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano also appear on the Night 2 card in Mexico City, where Mysterio defends the AAA Mega Championship against El Grande Americano.

Both nights of Triplemania 34 will be streamed on YouTube.
