An attorney for Patrick Clancy, the Duxbury father whose three children were killed in 2023, says he is prepared to pursue legal action against people spreading claims that Clancy himself had a role in the killings.
In a statement issued Tuesday, attorney Howard Cooper said Clancy and his family have faced what he called “a relentless, escalating, and destructive defamation campaign” over recent months, according to CBS News.
“This campaign of misinformation has been launched and promoted by minor celebrities, so-called influencers, and outright conspiracy theorists who appear intent on boosting their own social media profiles and potential profit by publishing what they know to be outright falsehoods that Patrick was somehow involved in the death of his young children, and other vile claims,” Cooper said in part.
Cooper concluded the statement with a direct warning: “Enough is enough — this spread of blatant and baseless falsehoods must stop. Those responsible should understand that there will be consequences, and every appropriate measure will be pursued to hold them accountable, including legally. Law enforcement has been notified.”
Background: A Mistrial in Plymouth County
The statement comes days after the criminal case against Lindsay Clancy, Patrick Clancy’s ex-wife, ended in a mistrial. Lindsay Clancy has admitted to strangling the couple’s three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months — at the family’s home in Duxbury, Plymouth County, in 2023. She has argued that postpartum psychosis left her unable to understand what she was doing at the time.
Judge William Sullivan declared a deadlock after a jury of nine women and three men split 11-1 in favor of acquittal following seven days and more than 36 hours of deliberations. Reports indicate one male juror was the lone holdout against a not-guilty verdict, and female jurors were visibly upset in court after he blocked the rest of the panel from finding Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity.
Since the mistrial, many members of the public have voiced support for Lindsay Clancy, 36. Her defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, has publicly called on President Donald Trump to grant her a pardon.
“Mr. President, I would hope that you would consider this young lady, the type of person she is, what she’s been through, and consider a pardon,” Reddington said.
Asked about the case, President Trump said, “I assume there’s going to be another trial. It’s a terrible situation. Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing. Can’t be worse.”
No new trial date has been announced. Patrick Clancy’s attorney has not identified specific individuals he intends to pursue legally.
