A Richmond political consultant with deep ties to Virginia’s Democratic Party has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after an FBI sting caught him with child sexual abuse material and attempting to arrange the abuse of a child he believed was 9 years old.
U.S. District Judge Roderick C. Young handed down the sentence Thursday for Randon Sprinkle, 31, following an investigation by the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, according to a Justice Department press release. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia said Sprinkle was caught in a May 2025 undercover operation after contacting an agent posing as the father of a 9-year-old boy through a dating app called Jack’d.
Investigators said Sprinkle sent the undercover agent a video depicting two adults sexually abusing a minor, expressed intent to travel to Washington, D.C., to abuse the fictional child, and was later found with dozens of files depicting the sexual abuse of toddlers and infants when agents searched his home.
Party Connections
Sprinkle held prominent roles within Virginia’s Democratic organizing structure. He served as finance chairman for the Democratic Party of Virginia and treasurer for the Metro Richmond Area Young Democrats, and was an elected delegate to the 2024 Democratic National Convention, according to public party rosters and local reporting.
He also worked as a paid political director for Rep. Jennifer McClellan’s 2021 gubernatorial campaign and had previously served as her legislative aide while she was a state senator. Consulting payment records show he also worked for other Virginia Democratic campaigns, including that of state Sen. Jennifer Boysko.
Records compiled by the Virginia Public Access Project show Sprinkle, who worked as an associate for the Richmond-based Reflex Strategy Group and for Alexander Strategies LLC, donated thousands of dollars to the recent statewide campaigns of Rep. Abigail Spanberger and Lt. Gov. Ghazala Hashmi. Photos preserved online after his arrest show him appearing alongside national Democratic figures including former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Spanberger.
