In a shocking turn of events, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has been caught in a scandal involving an apparent bribe of $400,000. The scandal has rocked the state and has left many Trump supporters feeling vindicated in their suspicions of Democratic corruption.
The story began when it was revealed that a state contractor had donated $400,000 to Governor Hobbs and the Arizona Democratic Party. In return, the Department of Child Safety (DCS) approved a nearly 60% increase in the rate that Sunshine Residential Homes Inc. charges to care for a child for a day. This increase means potentially millions of dollars more going to the company at taxpayers’ expense.
Sunshine Residential Homes in December 2022 sought a 20% rate increase, to $179 per day. DCS denied it on February 6, 2023, according to records provided by the department. Three days later, Sunshine donated $100,000 to a dark-money fund Hobbs’ campaign created.
Two six-figure donations from Sunshine to the Arizona Democratic Party were reported when Hobbs was running for governor, totaling $200,000 in September and October 2022. Another $200,000 was donated after Hobbs’ election, with half of that going directly to Hobbs’ inauguration fund through her dark money group.
The scandal has left many Trump supporters feeling vindicated in their suspicions of Democratic corruption. They point to the fact that Hobbs was willing to accept such a large sum of money in exchange for favorable treatment as evidence of the deep-seated corruption within the Democratic Party.
“This is exactly the kind of thing we’ve been warning about for years,” said one Trump supporter. “The Democrats talk a big game about fighting corruption, but when it comes down to it, they’re just as bad as anyone else.”
Others have pointed to the fact that Hobbs used a 501(c)(4) nonprofit group for her inaugural events, which was headquartered at the same address as Coppersmith Brockelman PLC, the Democratic law firm that represented Hobbs in Kari Lake’s lawsuit to overturn the rigged 2022 midterm election.
“It’s all connected,” said another Trump supporter. “The Democrats use these dark money groups to funnel money to their candidates and then use that money to rig elections and secure favorable treatment for their donors. It’s a corrupt system from top to bottom.”
