Bob Lee, the founder of Cash App, was stabbed to death in the middle of the night on Tuesday in a reportedly random attack in San Francisco.
Lee, who was 43 and a father of two children, was attacked and stabbed in the Rincon Hill area of San Francisco, a “well-to-do” neighbourhood in Nancy Pelosi’s district. Police responded to the stabbing at 2:35AM on Tuesday, rendering aid to Lee, who was transported to hospital where he later died of his wounds.
The tech entrepreneur was currently serving as the Chief Product Officer of the cryptocurrency start-up MobileCoin, but had previously served as the CTO of Square, under former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, as well as founding Cash App.
“Bob was a force of nature,” said MobileCoin CEO Joshua Goldbard in a statement.“He helped to birth Android and Cash App into our world. Moby was his dream: a privacy protecting wallet for the 21st century. I will miss him every day.”

Jake Shields, a friend of Lee’s and a former UFC champion, tweeted that he was attacked while he was walking in the area. “He was in the ‘good’ party of the city and appeared to have been targeted in a random mugging/attack,” Shields said. “F**k San Francisco.”
Twitter owner Elon Musk replied to Shields in a tweet, expressing his remorse for Lee’s death, and adding that he knew “many people” that had been “severely assaulted” in the Democrat-controlled city.
“Violent crime in SF is horrific and even if attackers are caught, they are often released immediately,” Musk continued, before tagging the current San Francisco District Attorney, Brooke Jenkins, to ask her if the city was “taking stronger action to incarcerate repeat violent offenders.”

In 2022, 55 murders took place in San Francisco. Chesa Boudin, the former District Attorney who was supported by George Soros, lost a recall election in June last year, after rising crime rates led to increased dissatisfaction among lower class and minority residents.
While Jenkins did not respond to Musk’s tweet directly, she later tweeted to extend her “sincerest condolences to Mr Lee’s family members & loved ones for his loss,” adding that they “do not tolerate these horrific acts of violence in San Francisco.”
According to Jenkins, no arrests have yet been made, and anyone with knowledge of the attack has been encouraged to call their tip line.
