As we all can see the red wave that was expected to come in during the midterm elections never showed up. However, there were some good things that came about through the election, one of which is that the way things look right now Republicans will retake control over the House of Representatives.
Of course, that means Nancy Pelosi will no longer be in charge but instead a Republican will. The question then becomes which Republican is it going to be?
Prior to Democrats taking control of the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy was the House Majority Leader. However, he may not be speaker of the house this go around. As it turns out, the House Minority Whip, Steve Scalise, has also put in his bid for a House Majority Leader and is doing so based on a particular pledge to hold the Biden Administration accountable.
“With this bold, conservative agenda in mind, I am asking for your support to be the next House Majority Leader,” Scalise wrote. “The American people deserve a House of Representatives that can move the agenda that was promised to them on the campaign trail. As your Majority Leader, I will work relentlessly to usher our vision through the House and show the country how conservative ideas can solve the problems that families are facing.”
At the same time, Kevin McCarthy has once again announced his bid for House Speaker as well. But it seems that not all of his Republican colleagues are quite as enthused about him becoming speaker of the house once again. In fact, CNN reported that at least two dozen members of the House Freedom Caucus are willing to vote against Kevin McCarthy if he doesn’t offer some sort of concessions. That does come from CNN though so take it for what it’s worth.
- McCarthy vowed that he would “immediately reopen the Capitol and end the Democrat proxy voting and remote work schemes that have inflicted untold damage to this institution,” as well as “go toe-to-toe” with the Biden administration. Sources Daily Wire
