Malik Obama, the estranged half brother of 44th President Barack Obama, raised eyebrows this week when he posted an old Kenyan passport issued to someone named “Barack Obama,” but later revealed the document to belong to his deceased father. He now plans to auction it.
“I tried to get fake ass to put this in his library but he wouldn’t,” wrote Malik, a native Kenyan, apparently referring to the Barack Obama’s presidential library. “Fake ass,” Malik added, referring to his presidential brother, “a snake.”

Though some falsely assumed the Kenyan passport to belong to Barack Obama Jr, Malik confirmed to multiple fact checkers that the travel document belonged to his father.
He later confirmed the document’s prior ownership by including the passport photo of Barack Obama Sr. “Should be in the National Archives,” added Obama.

While fact checkers assembled with great haste to dismiss claims that Obama’s post proves birther theories from the last decade, one fact checker learned of his future intentions for the historic document belonging to the father of the 44th president.
“‘It’s my father’s passport,’” he told the AFP, before revealing to the foreign publication that “he will be putting it up for auction.”
Malik is known to have an estranged relationship with Barack, and at times he has used the difficult relationship to help Republicans score political points against the Democrats.
In 2016, Obama became a fierce supporter of 45th President Donald Trump, and was invited to attend one Trump’s third debate against Hillary Clinton.
After that election, Obama continued his attacks on his high profile brother, making headlines when he claimed that Barack Obama “got rich and became a snob” after his political success.
“What I saw was the kind of person that wants people to worship him,” Malik Obama said of his brother. “He needs to be worshiped and I don’t do that.”
In 2022, Malik Obama made endorsements for Republicans in difficult battleground states.
