Clint Eastwood played a crotchety old man in the 2008 movie “Gran Torino.” Eastwood both directed and produced the successful film. He also starred as the lead character, Walt Kowalski. During one memorable scene, four young men approached Kowalski.
They were from a Detroit Hmong gang, which was key to the plot of the movie. Another important subplot to Eastwood’s film was how old people might not always be pushovers. During the scene, Eastwood makes one of the most unforgettable quotes of his storied career.
Staring eye-to-eye with four young thugs, Eastwood casually responds to their threat by saying, “Ever notice how you come across somebody once in a while you shouldn’t have f***ed with? That’s me.” Recently, a gang of real-life thugs in Chicago ran into a similar situation.
They encountered an old man who they really shouldn’t have “f***ed” with. A group of three Chicago teens also learned a profound new respect for the Second Amendment and old folks. Many senior citizens utilize their right to bear arms to protect themselves.
One 56-year-old “Chicago senior citizen” was calmly sitting inside his vehicle. It was around 6:00 in the morning. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, he was along the 4700 block of West Arlington Avenue. CBS-2 Chicago reported the incident and provided footage.
FOX News reported that another vehicle rolled up beside the man’s car. One teenager from the car jumped out and pointed a gun at the potential victim. Well, it seems this “old man” had made preparations, so that he didn’t “become a victim.”
Apparently, there was a brief struggle. However, like the thugs, but legally, the potential victim was “packing.” This senior citizen had a legal conceal carry permit. He put his firearm to good use by stepping back and firing several rounds.
Certainly, shocked by the man’s response, the would-be crooks jumped back in their car. However, police said, “The offending vehicle then attempted to flee, but crashed nearby.” Unfortunately, one of the criminals was shot in the head.
He is listed in critical condition. Another teen is hospitalized in serious condition after he took a bullet to the shoulder. The third teenager broke his leg in the crash. All three alleged robbers were between the ages of 15 and 18.
No one should be happy that three teenagers got hurt, two of them seriously. However, they tried to commit a crime. In a sense, they got just what they deserved. They may well learn another lesson. There are some old people whom “you probably shouldn’t have f***ed with.”
