BREAKING: The Vote Is Unanimous: PROSECUTE TRUMP

The House Committee on the January 6 protests has voted unanimously to recommend the Department of Justice charges 45th President Donald Trump with insurrection, among other alleged crimes.

The seven Democrats and two anti-Trump Republicans voted 9-0 to approve its final report on Monday, which included recommending four different criminal charges against Trump. The charges in full are: conspiracy to defraud the United States; obstruction of an official proceeding of Congress; conspiracy to make a false statement; and insurrection.

The first charge relates to Trump helping spread “misinformation” about the 2020 election, and pressuring state officials to investigate claims of election fraud, with the obstruction charge relating to allegations that Trump instructed then-Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the results of the Electoral College.

The charge of insurrection implicates Trump directly in the protests that took place on January 6, with the committee alleging that he incited his supporters to do so on Capitol Hill.

“Beyond our findings, we will also show that evidence we’ve gathered points to further action beyond the power of this committee, or the Congress, to help ensure accountability on the law. Accountability that can only be found in the criminal justice system,” said Chariman Bennie Thompson on Monday.

“We have every confidence that the work of this committee will help provide a roadmap to justice, and that the agencies and institutions responsible for ensuring justice under the law will use the information we’ve provided to aid in their work,” Thompson added.

The Mississippi Democrat said that President Trump “broke the faith” that people have in a democracy, and that despite allegedly having “lost the 2020 election,” Trump “chose to try to stay in office through a multi-part scheme to overturn the results and block the transfer of power.”

Liz Cheney, one of two anti-Trump Republicans on the committee, claimed that the former President is “unfit for office,” and should never be able to “serve in any position of authority in our nation again.”

“The committee recognises that our work has only begun. It’s only the initial step in addressing President Trump’s effort to remain in office illegally,” Cheney continued. “Prosecutors are considering the implications of the conduct that we describe in our report.”
